Overview
Measure AR is a mobile application built to extend the functionality of a remote visual assistance (RVA) service by enabling precise, real-world measurements during remote support calls. Designed for seamless integration into an existing WebRTC-based support workflow, the app allows end users to measure physical objects—such as home appliances—using augmented reality, while remaining in audio contact with a remote technician.
The application was developed in Unity using Niantic's Lightship ARDK and delivered with iOS support via a lightweight installation link. Once launched, the app streamed the AR camera view back to a technician, who could guide the user through measurement tasks in real time. The workflow prioritized ease-of-use for non-technical end users, minimizing friction during installation and operation.
While the initial delivery focused on AR measurement, the system was also structured to support future enhancements, including anchored 3D model previews (e.g., visualizing a product like a Tesla wall battery in the user's space). This feature was explored in prototype form and partially tested prior to handover.
